Health promotion implies providing information and/or education to a person or a group of persons so that it leads to an overall health improvement. It also implies motivating people to adopt healthy practices so that it provides lasting benefits into adulthood.

According to the World Health Organization(WHO), Health Promotion is the process of enabling people to increase control over, and to improve their health.

Effective Health Promotion practices lead to :

  1. Positive parenting and a strong bonding between parent-child;
  2. Children staying healthy and safe;
  3. Healthy eating and increased physical activity which in turn leads to a reduction in obesity;
  4. Prevention of some serious and communicable diseases;
  5. Continuation of breastfeeding and increased rates of initiation;
  6. A willingness to go to school and improved learning;
  7. Early recognition of growth disorders and risk factors involved with obesity;
